10 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR EMAIL MARKETING

  • Email remains consistent while social media is ever-changing - new algorithms, new guidelines. Invest in your email list to continue to reach your target audience & improve your email marketing.
  • Make it easy to subscribe with sign-up forms in a minimum of 3 locations throughout your blog/website & on relevant pages.
  • My favorite popup is Popup Ally, the free version, which allows you to create 2 customized pop-ups.
  • Create a dedicated Subscribe Page. This gives readers a taste of what they can expect when subscribing.
  • Plan for consistency, both with your newsletter content & your email frequency.
  • Optimize for mobile, because chances are good that a large majority of your subscribers are reading your emails on their mobile devices.
  • Test your subject lines. Enticing subject lines = higher open rates; enticing subject lines + valuable content = higher click rates
  • Incorporate social media. Include social media icons in your emails to encourage subscribers to visit you in other places and share your signup form on your various social media platforms. Use custom bitly links for each platform to track clicks.
  • Avoid spam filters by sending plain-text emails, using a verified domain-specific email address, and sending non-spammy subject lines.
  • Always keep your list clean. Unsubscribe people who never open or engage with your emails.
  • Include clear calls to action like clicks to tweet, requests for them to forward to a friend, or ask a question.
  • Target your list with segmentation for different blog categories or to generate interest in an upcoming product launch.
  • Use your footer. In addition to your mailing address & unsubscribe option (required by CAN-SPAM & FTC), include things like a bio, social media icons, links to a product or service you offer, etc.
