10 Ways to Be Happier as an Entrepreneur

Working online is a such an awesome awesome thing. But sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. In fact, there are often times when we feel overwhelmed. Stressed out. Exhausted. Even sad. Let’s not forget isolated and lonely.

Okay, I’m making this sound like such a bummer post! I’m not meaning to do that. What I do want to do is remind you that if you’re feeling that way now, or you ever have, you’re not alone. It’s something that most online entrepreneurs experience have experienced at one time or another.

But those negative feelings, those down times, can be minimized pretty easily. In fact, there are 10 key things that are sure to make you feel happier as an entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur can be stressful. But there are so many things you can do to be happier. And happiness never goes out of style!

Pick a Niche You Love.

When you’re working online, it’s tempting to just want to attack all the things. What I mean like that is that it’s easy to get sucked into wanting to do everything. Make a million different things, blog about everything. And in the end, it’s nearly impossible to really master a million different areas.

Instead, pick a niche that you absolutely love. One that you’re fairly knowledgeable in. One that you find yourself talking about even when you’re not working. You know what they say! Find a job you love and you’ll never work again! {That’s not 100% accurate but it’s pretty darn close!}

Don’t Be Afraid to Say No.

It’s tempting to get swept up in all the things that people tell you that you need to do online. You need to master every social media network out there. You need to post in a million different groups, create an intensive e course and provide a million calls a month. Create webinars. Do live events.

Yep, there’s a lot of pressure put on online business owners to do so many things. Don’t be afraid to say no to the things that aren’t in line with your goals. Or even the things that don’t excite you! Saying no to good things can eventually lead to you saying yes to great things!

Take Breaks.

I’ve talked about this before… but self care is so important to your health and happiness. And that means taking breaks. During the course of your work day, whatever it looks like, step away for some break time. Take an actual lunch break.

And being a mama doesn’t excuse you from that! In fact, mamas absolutely need that break. Even if it’s just 10 minutes hiding in your bedroom with a piece of chocolate from your secret stash. By the way, if you don’t have a secret chocolate stash, that’s your homework for the week. Make that happen.

Create a Peaceful Work Space.

Okay, I’m not always the best at following this rule. I won’t even deny that I’m sitting on the couch with my dog leaned on my arm. It’s late at night and I’ve got Psych reruns playing in the background. It’s been an off week, okay?

But most of the time, you can find me working in my designated workspace. And it helps because it’s an environment that I love and I’ve created for myself. I want you to do that same for yourself. Find a designated workspace and make it your own. Pin up a motivational print. Light a candle. Keep it clean and tidy so you’ll feel calm when you sit down to work.

Set Realistic Goals for Yourself.

Want to set yourself up for misery? Set impossible goals. Now I’m not telling you it’s bad to dream. Dreaming is awesome. But setting goals that are impossible to achieve will seriously stress you out. AKA lower your happiness level.

Instead of aiming to gain 10,000 followers in one week, aim for a more reasonable number. Instead of shooting to create 400 new pieces for you shop, shoot for 10 high quality pieces. Or whatever feels right for you! Just make it realistic.

Worried that your goals are too crazy or maybe they aren’t crazy enough??? Check in with your biz besties. See what they have to say!

Which brings us to the next tip.

Prioritize Your Friends and Family.

Those biz besties? Make time to spend with them! Make time to spend with your family. You probably already know this, but those connections are good for your heart and mind. Isolating yourself while working can lead to anxiety and depression. So make sure you’re taking time to be with the ones that you care about.

Even if it means pencilling it in. There’s nothing wrong with scheduling friend/family dates!

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others.

Have you noticed this is sort of my theme song. I really should put music to it or something. After all, it’s one of my biggest messages. Do NOT compare yourself to others. You are too unique to do that yourself. Your path is too unique. And comparison can be an ugly thing. Let me clarify something for you though. There is nothing wrong with aspiring to someone’s level of success. But when it starts making you feel low about what you’re doing, it’s not healthy.

You can have biz crushes but you cannot let them crush you. In other words, don’t compare your path to someone else's path.

Make Your Health a Priority.

Which means don’t skip breakfast. Or lunch. Or any meal. And keep drinking that water. Go for that walk. Make sure you’re getting those check ups.

In other works, don’t put your health on the back burner because you feel like you have other things to do. If your body is healthy and happy, you’re mind is more likely to be happy too!

Celebrate Even the Small Wins.

Pop open the bubbly! Even if it’s just a Dr. Pepper. When you accomplish something, no matter how small, celebrate it! Gain 5 new followers? Celebrate it! Make a sale in a state you’ve never sold in? Celebrate it! Finally get the courage to start sharing your message in groups and communities? CELEBRATE. IT.

You get the idea.

And finally… finally!

Learn From Your Failures, but Don’t Let Them Hold You Back.

Take a deep breath when you fail, and let it out. Just let out all of the upset feelings that come with failing and take note of what you’ve learned. I know failing can absolutely stink. Trust me, I know.

But here’s the thing! You don’t learn from success. You learn from failure! So maybe I should lump this into the last tip too. Celebrate failures?? Okay, that’s stretching it. But still. Don’t get hung up on them. Find the lesson in it and move on.

So are you following any of these? What things do you do to maintain your happiness?

Until next time, have a beautiful day!
