How Your Content Helps You Achieve Your Goals

Don't think of your business goals and your content as two separate parts of your business. Your content can actually help you achieve your goals!

Let me ask you a question: Do you plan your goals and your content separately? I want to show you how your content can help you achieve the goals you set for your business, helping you grow your business!

You need to be thinking of your goals and your content as "helpers", rather than two totally separate components of your business growth.

5 Steps to Connect Your Content and Your Goals

#1 - Understand who your audience is and what your traffic looks like.

Look beyond pageviews on your Google Analytics to discover where your traffic comes from, what your most popular content, and what search terms people are using to find you, then GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT!

#2 - Break down your content types.

Content isn't just blog posts. Content can include everything from blog posts to YouTube videos to social media content to email newsletters.

By understanding who your audience is, you can determine where your audience is hanging out online and what types of content to create for them. Only focus on the content that actually resonates with your audience.

#3 - Turn your goals into action plans.

Goals are just arbitrary items on a list until you break them down into actionable steps. Ask yourself:

What has to happen for me to get from where I am now to where I want to be next year?

If you want to grow your email list, how are you going to do that? You might need to move to a new email platform and take time to learn how to use it, or learn how to create PDFs in Canva to use as opt-in offers, or reach out to other people in your industry for joint venture opportunities.

#4 - Create content based on your goals.

Determine how you can take someone coming into contact with your brand doing what you want them to do. For example, if you want to grow your email list, set up paths from various points within your website or social media profiles that will take them to an email sign-up form.

Essentially, you're creating paths for your audience to follow. Always think, "What next?" when creating any content for your site. After your audience consumes this piece of content, what next? Where should they go?

#5 - Create an editorial calendar.

Have all of your goals and action plans in place, and determine what content types you should create before you ever create an editorial calendar. Create a realistic schedule to determine how often you'll share content and on which platforms.

For Wit + Wisdom, we share a new YouTube video each Monday, a new blog post on Wednesday, and a podcast on Friday. We send out newsletters on Friday, and we interact on social media in our Facebook group and Instagram daily.
