How to Name Your Business (and Make it Stick!)
One of my favorite parts of being a coach for budding business owners is that I get to witness so many of the amazing beginning components come together. It's like watching a flower bloom; just amazing. But one of the things that really trips new business owners up is coming up with the perfect name for their business. It can feel overwhelming and honestly? It's not as tough to come up with a name as you may think.
In this weeks video, I'm sharing with you how to create a name for your business that will not only stick to your business (say goodbye to pesky renames!) but will also create a lasting impression on those around around you.
Here's the quick and dirty version.
When naming your business, you need to make sure you're following a few simple guidelines.
Don't Make It Overly Specific.
By making a name super specific, you box yourself in and can even appear amateurish. You don't want that!
Keep It Short And Sweet.
Want to make sure that people remember it? Make sure it's not a problem to remember it! Too many words or strange variations on words will make it difficult for people to remember your name or even refer others to you! And friend, word of mouth is an amazing growth tool!
Make Sure It's Yours!
If someone else has the name you're looking at, find a new name. Don't be cute and try to come up with a variation. Choose a name that's all your own and then snap up the domain.
But how can you choose a name? How do you come up with it? Here's the exercise I recommend in the video!
- Write down words that relate to the feeling of your business.
- Write down words that convey your personality.
- Start pairing words together.
And once you've found a pairing you like, test it out! Share it with your friends and family and get some opinions. It's important to get an outside perspective when you are working on the name of your business.
Okay friends! Your turn! Leave me a comment and let me know how you came up with you business name!
Until next time, have a beautiful day!
