HOW TO USE PINTEREST TO ATTRACT READERS AND CLIENTS

  • Started online travel consultancy business & decided how to use Pinterest to get clients to her business since she already loved the platform
    • Over 75% of clients came from Pinterest
    • Pinterest is 2x more likely to convert into a sale over Facebook traffic, so people are going to Pinterest with the mindset of purchasing
    • Bloggers should be using a business profile, not a personal profile
      • Get access to Pinterest analytics
      • Verify website to make you look more professional
      • Get access to rich pins
      • Analytics allow you to see people interacting with your pins, and what other Pinterest accounts they follow so you can create content they are interested in.
      • Pinterest profile: business name, about section, & profile image
        • Business/blog name: include keywords, even if it gets cut off when viewing, because Pinterest can read them when people search for those keywords
        • About: what you do & who you do it for
        • Profile picture: keep it consistent across all social platforms
        • Use Pinterest’s guided search feature to find other keywords, and use it often because it always updates with what’s currently popular.
        • Board names & descriptions need to include keywords. Don’t use cutesy names for board names - make them searchable.
        • Pin descriptions should be between 50-250 words & include the keywords in a way that makes sense.
        • Include call to action in pin description
        • About rich pins
          • Different kinds of rich pins, like article, recipe, etc.
          • Insert code into <head> section of your blog, or use the Yoast SEO plugin
          • Validate pins, then Pinterest will add rich pins to all the pins on your blog
          • Done once to set up
          • Pinterest scheduling tools: Summer uses & loves Tailwind because they are great at scheduling & great with analytics
            • Find Content tool: allows you to follow blogs and shows you their most current pins
            • Tribes: allows you to add blog friends with similar content so you can all share one another’s content easily
            • Encourage blog visitors to pin your content by using a Pin It hover button, use a Pinterest widget to show most recent pins, use a prompt/slide-in like MiloTree.
            • About cleaning up boards & pins
              • As long as your boards are nice looking boards, even if they’re not directly related to your blog, it’s worth keeping them rather than deleting them.
              • Boards not related to your blog/business are full of followers not necessarily belonging to your target audience, so it might be worth deleting those boards or make them secret.
              • Board order doesn’t matter on mobile, because followers will see the board you pinned to last at the top of your profile. However on desktop, it’s a good idea to have your blog board first (all pins from your own blog), then boards closely related to your blog next.
